Things that made me laugh today:

 

The United Nations appointed earthling Mazlan Othman the official greeter for extraterrestrials that might come to the planet.

 

She appears pleasant enough, but I thought this guy might be a better choice...

 

and might relate well to the little green men we talk about invading earth.

 

Meerkats always give me a chuckle and this Pepsi commercial does just that:

 

This dragster bus amazed me. I laugh when the bus approaches the starting line...

 

and Margaret Cho on Dancing With The Stars brought smiles to my face as she brings her comedy to the dance floor. The judges reaction..."What the hell was that!" cracks me up. It's a 6 minute video, which is kinda long, but worth the view, especially if your a fan.

 

The Katy Perry, Elmo controversy also gave me a chuckle, but find it ridiculous. Katy Perry is a notorious bad girl...

 

I know parents who let their children watch Sesame Street by day  

and the Saw series by night.

 

Get real people...sex is healthy and normal, violence is not.

 

Reality bites…

Or does it? I like reality shows and their unscripted realism. I’ve been a Survivor fan most seasons. My favorite season, Survivor Africa.

 

I currently dig Cupcake Wars and think my friend Julie who bakes a delectable chocolate cream filled cupcake with the most yummy frosting I've ever tasted should enter the competition.

 

I also like American Pickers because the two guys are located in LeClaire, Iowa. Plus, I like Danielle's sassy attitude.

Sometimes your the windshield, sometimes your the bug. This week I've been the bug.

 
Everytime I needed to complete or submit an assignment this week there were problems. The ICCOC website experienced problems...the student drive was down at SCC...my printer didn't work...typepad didn't recover the post I was working on...the Flash program was unpredictable and surly today and on and on...Ahhhhhhhhh!

 
Despite all that, This morning, I feel lucky, so I am off to pokerstars.netto play some no limit texas hold'em. And yes, I called in sick to work today...lol!

 

No bugs were harmed in the making of this blog.

Midnight Confessions

We laughed at the blogger’s meeting held this past week that posting on a Friday or Saturday attests to the fact that we are home and not out and about. This weekend, I am happily secluded, catching up on all the things I had to put off during the week.

Hey, LIFE rushes in, it’s keep the pace or get run over.

 

I’m meeting all my deadlines this week by the hair of my chinny-chin-chin.

 

 

Damn that's loud...

I imagine by now most of you have heard about the controversy over the Sun Chips 100% compostable bag and the noise it makes. It registers at 95 decibels which is 5 decibels over the acceptable noise limit levels…damn that’s loud.

 

This eco-friendly bag will decompose in about 3 months in the local landfill. That in itself is appealing.

 
Myself, I am a Doritos fan, the Jalapeno Popper flavor being my favorite, but until Doritos changes their packaging, I am swearing them off and making the switch to Sun Chips making my dollar representative of my vote to implement the new generation packaging as main stream.

 
The company is embracing the sound the bags by placing a sticker on each Sun Chips bag that says, “ Yes, the bag is loud, that’s what change sounds like.” Clever…very clever indeed.

 

State of disbelief

Today, I cannot but help take note of the date, September 11^th. As most of you, that day is emblazoned in my mind. I recall my shock and disbelief as we watched via the television the Twin Towers being attacked in 2001 by Islamic terrorists. Thousands perished when the towers fell. 911 carries an emotional impact that effects the whole nation. Accompanying the emotion is fear, we can no longer feel secure in our own homeland now that it has been attacked and we feel vulnerable. Nine years later, we are still trying to heal.

The Freedom Tower will replace and pay homage to those who lost their lives that day and to those who helped in the rescue attempt and clean up. I viewed the devestation of that day through the lens of a camera and can't even begin to image what it would have felt and looked like first hand, with all my senses kicked in.

 
The Freedom Tower "is something like a large sloping block with the corners carved off, so it appears that the entire building twists as it gets higher and will be clad in glass prisims.” Above the mast will be an intense beam of light that will shine a thousand feet into the air, as beckon of our resiliency and freedom and as a memorial to those who passed that day.

Today, I remember and still initially feel disbelief and as I close this post I wish for world peace.

B-Town Bookworm

I adore the Burlington Public Library. A friend of mine lives in the Heritage Hill Historic District and we often walk down to the facility and browse through the new books, admiring the cover art work and exclaiming over the plot of the novels we handle.  

The children’s section has a menagerie of books, with a play and reading area and a bank of computers for tech savvy kids. In the general area of the library there are many nooks and crannies that host comfortable stuffed chairs that beckon readers to sit a spell and leaf through the pages of a chosen book.

Cold days I enjoy sitting in the reference room near the fireplace, taking warmth and cheer from the lit fire. Snowy days I prefer to sit in front of the expansive windows and watch the snow fall while losing myself in an adventure novel.

The view enhances the bookworm experience...

One thing I can’t resist is the oversized globe that sits on the east wall.  I give it a good spin, close my eyes and let my finger locate my next destination. Today, my digit landed on Paris, which delighted me, as I love all things French. Ok, that might be an exaggeration as I am not fond of escargot. The accent however, and the Effiel Tower are total grooves.

Summertime fun get it in now...

Get out and have some summertime fun this weekend before the cold weather sets in and the snow begins to fly. Brrrr!

 

Myself, I will miss those hot humid nights when the air so was thick, if you didn't have air conditioning, it was impossible to sleep. The nights seemed endless, sitting out on the porch swing, gazing at the moon, sipping on a warm coke.

 

Labor Day weekend signals to me that summer is over, and I feel a sadness for what has past, and hopeful for what will be.

This holiday weekend is about picnicing, parties, bars, beer, relaxing, and living in the moment. It is about having one last summertime harrah and saying good-bye sunshine and hello daylight savings time.

For me this weekend is about painting, the Jerry Lewis telathon, house/pet sitting, a triple feature at the Grand View drive-in http://grandviewdriveintheater.com/ and a Sunday evening picnic with friends.

Traditionally, this is a boating holiday, but I just saw Piranha 3D and this chic isn't going anywhere near the water.
